Case Studies

Here is a small selection of projects that I have worked on over the last 10 years. They range from complete site builds to optimisation and maintainance and new technology integration.

JD Sports Fashion Plc

A market leading sports fashion retailer JD Sports generates over £1 billion per annum in sales and their website receives over a million visitors per day. Working closely with marketing and campaign executives, my role at JD Sports primarily consisted of business as usual tasks such as building and maintaining landing pages, constructing emails with HTML, jQuery and CSS and responding rapidly to the needs of a fast paced retail sector business. In addition to this I develop targeted marketing campaigns within Montetate and Fredhopper which involved jQuery DOM manipulation techniques to display pages and products in a different manner based on a predefined user criteria. I also undertook responsibility for training new developers, managing scheduled releases and documenting procedures for the benefit of the team.

Manheim Retail Services

The UK’s leading company in marketing services for the automotive industry Manheim’s clients include 30 car manufacturers and over 3000 franchised dealers.

Whilst working at Manheim I was part of a team that reworked their car dealership lead management application from Coldfusion to ASP.NET. I was responsible for the development of a new, responsive user interface from proof of concept through to final implementation across around 700 screens that make up the application utilising HTML 5, CSS and jQuery.

In 2004 I was the lead front end developer when the initial conversion from table based to CSS layout and rebuilt the entire site to be W3C WCAG compliant. In addition to this I also built the Education, Health Through Warmth, Good Food Show and Cricket microsites.

I returned to npwer in 2011 and worked on the Quote and Switch application, Football League and Electric Vehicles microsites.

Promethean Plc

Promethean is a world leader in the rapidly growing global market for interactive learning technology. I worked on the Promethean Planet website identifying and implementing a number of site enhancements largely involving site optimisation and performance benefits such as script and CSS compression, refactoring bloated and unnecessary HTML and CSS and creating image sprites. This work has reduced page weight by an average of 40% greatly enhancing page load time and reducing bandwidth. In addition to this I also implemented new features to the site such as CSS only drop-down menus, multiple language support and new search functionality. I also designed and built corporate emails and assisted with WorldPay payment integration.
